Baker Act On-line Training

The Florida Mental Health Act, better known as the Baker Act, creates a system of rights for persons with mental illnesses as well as their due process rights when held in mental health facilities.

This Baker Act training provides an overview for a wide variety of persons who need to be familiar with the Baker Act and its procedures, including law enforcement, mental health professionals, hospital personnel, attorneys, advocates, case managers, nursing home/Assisted Living Facilities (ALF) staff, protective service workers, and others.


AG opinion authorizes Physician Assistants to initiate Baker Acts
A physician assistant licensed pursuant to Chapter 458 or 459, Florida Statutes, may refer a patient for involuntary evaluation pursuant to section 394.463., Florida Statutes, provided that the physician assistant has experience regarding the diagnosis and treatment of mental and nervous disorders and such tasks are within the supervising physician's scope of practice.
